Contact lens Getting Smarter Each Da

The Google Glass spectacles have already made a lot of noise even despite they have not even made it to become a commercial product yet. Only time would show, if they are could help their owners be more intelligent or even replace this ability, but currently Google is in process of launching their very new product, and namely "smart contact lens”!

However, this time the novelty has strictly medical focus: the major aim of the new invention is controlling of the insulin levels in people dealing with diabetes. The idea is to mount into the lens specific sensors, microchips and other electronic components that would determine the level of glucose in tears. A micro-antenna transmits information to the smart phone, and will turn on a small LED light in case the level exceeds the acceptable limit.

Nevertheless, the tendency of developing something extraordinary still exists. Thanks to the graphene’s capability to sensitively respond to minimal photon beams. According to the sources, the company also plans developing contact lens that would be capable to ‘see’ in infrared light at night. The latter type of lens is supposed to be used by military forces, since it has not been understood yet how such lens could help people in their everyday life. Nevertheless, lens suitable for night vision are currently at the project stage, in contrast to the lens developed to help control health, which would benefit to nearly a quarter billion people suffering from diabetes across the world.

The studies as well showed that the measure of insulin levels by means of contact lens would be less painful and time-consuming for the diabetes patients comparing to the traditional method. In addition, since the lens is in constant contact with the lachrymal fluid, it would permit immediate checking of glucose levels and timely reaction in case the level exceeds the acceptable limit. However, opponents of the invention say the levels of glucose containing in the tears is always lower than that containing the blood, still research continues and Google is eager to solve all controversial moments concerning the innovative lens.

What takes the commercial issues, it is not that important how the new product would be sold, either as optical device or medicinal product, the vital point is to make it affordable to those who really needs such contact lens
