When you have purchased eyeglasses, you want to maintain them in good condition as long as possible. Unfortunately, eyeglasses cannot last forever, but you can prolong their life and have qualitative vision correction means without harming your budget. For this purpose you have to take appropriate care of your glasses daily. Here is how you can make it:
· Inspect the frame for scratches and cracks. Check
temples, make sure they are secured properly, if they are loosened, use small
screwdriver to secure them.
· Use both hands when removing eyeglasses. Otherwise
they will get loosened.
· If you are wearing eyeglasses when doing sports or any
other activities involving a lot of movement, make sure to use eyeglass band or
chain to prevent them from falling.
· Store your eyeglasses in a hard case. If you drop them
in purse or glovebox, the lenses can get scratched and damaged.
· When removing your eyeglasses and putting them on a
desk or any other surface, be sure to fold them and set them with the lenses
facing up.
How to Clean Eyeglasses
Eyeglasses need to be
cleaned regularly. Dirt and debris can harm your vision and cause scratching of
the prescription lenses. When cleaning your eyeglasses from any impurities,
avoid using tissues, paper towels or your clothing. Such materials are not
suitable for cleaning of lenses since they can cause scratches. The only recommended
material is microfiber lens-cleaning cloths.
In order to remove
smudges, use special sprays that can be used with a microfiber cloth. Avoid
using any household cleaners, acetone or other chemicals on your lenses. If you
do not have a special solution for cleaning of lenses at hand, you can also
wash the lenses in warm water with liquid dishwashing detergent and then wipe
them with a microfiber cloth.
Make sure to store
cloths for your lenses properly. Usually they come in protective cases that
prevent them from dust and debris, which, when accumulated on the cloth, may
cause scratches.
How to Remove Scratches
There are several
types of scratches removal from the lenses according to the lens type:
· Scratches on the plastic lenses can be removed with
Armour Etch. This glass-etching product removes the anti-glare and
scratch-resistant coatings from plastic lenses. It is useful only if the
scratch is only on the surface and didn’t affect the lens integrity. After
using the product, you’ll no longer have anti-glare or scratch resistance.
· In order to eliminate scratches on both glass lenses
and plastic lenses you can use baking soda or toothpaste. When using soda, make
a thick paste by mixing it with warm water, then rub the paste into the lens in
a circular motion using soft cotton cloth. Similar paste can be prepared with
toothpaste, but be sure to avoid abrasive toothpastes.
We hope the tips above will prove to be a helpful tool to prolong the life of your spectacles.
